Proud Mama!

Photobucket

Thanks so much Nikki for the beautiful graphic!!  But most of all thanks for thinking of me.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas surrounded by friends and family.  We truly have to count our blessings in a world where there is so much suffering.  I wish all of you a New Year filled with good health and happiness.

Red heart

I tried SO HARD to place this at the top of my space because I love it SO MUCH but nothing I did would work so Geri sweetie...this is the best I could do to show my appreciation.  I LOVED all of my pressies but this was my favorite.  You are SO TALENTED girl!  I am blessed with your friendship and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and a New Year filled with good health and happiness!  And of course I wish the same for everyone I have come to know thanks to MSN Spaces.

Hey Family!

Well...MSN Spaces has done it again!  WHY OH WHY CAN'T THEY JUST LEAVE THINGS ALONE??  It took me almost 30 minutes to figure out how to add a photo album!!  SHEESH!!

OK folks...tomorrow the Fall semester ends for moi and now I can concentrate on crafting and Christmas!!  WOO HOO!!

I wanted to share the book my son, who is in college too, made for his Early Childhood Education class.  I just think it's SO GREAT!  I would love to get this thing published!  Check out the pics in my photo album.  Thanks!

I hope you all are having fun planning for the upcoming holiday.  I know it's difficult watching the news and finding out almost on a daily basis that thousands of people are losing their jobs so close to the holiday but we have to stay positive and count our blessings.  But most important we have to stay prayerful.  2009 has got to be better!!

Love ya'll!

God's Speed Bumps

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

By now all of you have heard the sad news of Washington Redskin Sean Taylor's passing.  I am presently living in the Washington, DC area and am, as many of you know, a Redskins fan.  Everyone here is devastated by the news.  There were prayer vigils being held last night and this morning.  The atmosphere here at work is very somber today.

My grandmother always used to say, "Honey...God knows best...never question Him!"  That was always a very hard pill to swallow for me especially if I lost someone who was very dear.  The sadness becomes even more intense when the person, like Sean, is so young.  My two oldest children are 22 and 25.  As a parent of children this age the pain becomes even more intense.

One of my favorite phrases is "...this is just one of God's speed bumps".  God always puts those speed bumps in our way to make us slow down and think about our own circumstances.  Sean Taylor's passing this morning was definitely that speed bump for me.

I have been upset with my son for 4 months now.  He has been traveling around the country playing basketball, which has been his passion since he was 9 yrs old.  As the oldest son I feel that it is his responsibility to make sure his family is taken care of first.  But I am his mother so I have tried to be supportive.  My support has grown into anger and disapointment.  And has caused tension in our relationship.  My daughter always says, "well mom...he is your favorite!"  Grrrrrrrr....I knew one day that was going to come back to bite me!  It's hard hearing that from your own child!  But if anyone knows this it would be her!  Smile  So...my favorite son has been out of work all summer...chasing this dream of becoming a professional basketball player.  Now he has returned home and has been back 2 weeks now...he hasn't looked in a newspaper or gone on any interviews...Grrrrrrrrr....I just wait....  Yesterday was his brother's 19th birthday.  We are out celebrating and he says to me, "Mom...I got a job".  Surprised  WHAT?!  When did this happen???  Probably when I was working 2 jobs.  Smile  Well!  Of course that made me feel so much better and very stupid!

Then when Sean passed away this morning I thought...hmmm...what if that was my son?  What if my son wouldn't have had the chance to tell me the good news about his finding a job?  Wow...there's that speed bump again.  Lesson learned.  Thank you once again God for teaching me to be still and wait on You!  And to count my blessings once again.

Please pray for the Taylor family and for the Redskins fans everywhere.

Thinking Positive...

Hey Family,
My oldest son Evan is in Long Beach, CA right now at NBA Camp.  There will be lots of scouts there so he is hoping that one of them will make his dream come true.  For those of you who don't know Evan spent 4 months in Germany last year trying to make one of the teams over there and sustained an injury and had to come home.  It was heartbreaking for him but I am so proud of him because after he was well enough he started practicing every day until he was strong enough to decide to give it another try.  He has a heads up on some of the guys there because he was actually invited to this camp.  If it's God's will his dreams will come true.  So please say a prayer for my son.  We have to encourage our young people when they try to do something positive with their lives.
I hope you all had a good 4th!Love,
Theresa
Oh and thanks for the cute table Mija.

"We cannot really love anybody with whom we never laugh." -- Agnes Repplier

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

I love languages so the some of the videos here will be in foreign languages

but hey...music is music.  If it's good it doesn't matter what language they're singing in.

"It's all good" as they say

I want to thank Geri for the beautiful graphic above,

  You're THE BEST!

I hope more of you will leave me a voice comment.  This has been been such a treat listening to the voices of those of you who did leave me a message.  The call is free so please come back and holla at me, OK?

I added some new pics in my album over the weekend.  My baby boy received 2 awards at school.  He is so funny...he went around and shook everybody's hand after he picked up each award.  Everyone just laughed and laughed.  They love my son so much at that school and that makes our family feel so good.  With everything happening in this world of ours it is so refreshing to know that your child is shown love like that every day.  He gives love and they give it right back.  One teacher told me afterwards that my son made it worthwhile for her to come into work every day.  Wow...that was really too much...what a blessing!

Drew is indeed just that...a blessing.

Well this is the start of another one ya'll.  This will be a short week for me thank God.  We will be driving to Virginia Beach for the Memorial Day weekend.  I can hardly wait!  Boy do I need a vacay!  It will only be a few days but it will be much appreciated, believe me!

I hope you make it a good one!

Please remember our veterans this week who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND From

Thank you Lady Spyrt

Hey Family,

I hope all of you had a good and safe Labor Day weekend.

My weekend was very busy with trying to get everything situated in my new home.  I also sold my car this weekend so we were very, very busy.  But I give thanks and praise to God that he allowed everything to go according to plan.

I tried to find a way to pay tribute to Steve Irwin today.  The best I could do was this background.  I was so shocked when I heard the news of his passing.  I know we all enjoyed watching Steve's antics on TV as he showed us his love for animals and his passion for teaching us things we would have never known had it not been for him.  He will be sorely missed.  We all suspected that one day he would go too far, but he died doing something that he loved.  God bless him and his family during this difficult time.

My grandmother used to always say, "tomorrow is not promised to us".  Hearing those words would always frighten me as a child.  I didn't understand why she would say it so often.  Now that I am older and have children of my own I find myself saying it just as often as she did.  We have to treat one another with kindness because we don't know if we will have a chance to say the right words later on.  I know that is difficult sometimes, especially when someone does something to hurt us.  But it's always best to just walk away.  A childhood friend of mine who has since passed away used to say, "always let the last words you say be "I love you".  She told me this as I sat next to her crying after having an argument with my Aunt who was very ill at the time.  She said some very hurtful things to me and I in turn said hurtful things to her.  I immediately went back and hugged her and told her I was sorry and that I loved her.  She passed away very soon after that.

Count your blessings today family.  I know there are things you feel you don't have but family is everything.  Material things soon fade away.  You will never see a U-Haul truck following behind a hearse!  You can't take it with you people!  The love of family and friends is everlasting!

Have a great week!

Love,
Theresa

To Mothers Everywhere

THE PATH OF LIFE

The young mother set her foot on the path of life.

“Is this the long way?” she asked.  And the guide said,

“Yes and the way is hard.

And you will be old before you reach the end of it.

But the end will be better than the beginning.”

But the young mother was happy

And she would not believe that anything

could be better than these years.

So she played with her children,

She fed them and bathed them and taught them how to tie their shoes

And ride a bike and reminded them to feed the dog

And do their homework and brush their teeth.

The sun shone on them and the young Mother cried,

“Nothing will ever be lovelier than this.”

Then the nights came, and the storms, and the path was sometimes dark,

And the children shook with fear and cold,

and the mother drew them close and covered them with her arms,

and the children said,

“Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can come.”

And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead,

And the children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary.

But at all times she said to the children,

“A little patience and we are there.”

And when they reached the top they said,

“Mother, we would not have done it without you.”

So the children climbed, and as they climbed,

They learned to weather the storms.

And with this, she gave them strength to face the world.

Year after year, she showed them compassion, understanding, hope,

and all the while hoping and praying you will only know

the good feelings in life.

The days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years,

And the mother grew old, and she became little and bent.

But her children were tall and strong, and walked with courage.

And the mother, when she lay down at night, looked up at the stars and said,

“This is a better day than the last,

for my children have learned so much

and are now passing these traits on to their children.”

And when the way became rough for her,

they lifted her, and gave her their strength,

just as she had given them hers.

One day they came to a hill, and beyond the hill they could see a shining road

and golden gates flung wide.

And mother said,

“I have reached the end of my journey.

and now I know the end is better than the beginning,

for my children can walk with dignity and pride,

with their heads held high, and so can their children after them.”

And the children said,

“You will always walk with us, Mother,

even when you have gone through the gates.”

And they stood and watched her as she went on alone,

And the gates closed after her.

And they said,

“We cannot see her, but she is with us still.

A mother like ours is more than a memory.

She is a living presence.”

Your Mother is always with you.

She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street.

she’s the small of certain foods you remember…

flowers you pick and perfume that she wore.

She’s the cool hand on your brow when you’re not feeling well…

she’s your breath in the air on a code winter’s day.

She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep…

the colors of a rainbow.

She is a Christmas morning.

She’s the place you came from, your first home,

and she’s the map you follow with every step you take.

She’s your first love, your first friend, even your first enemy…

but nothing on earth can separate you.

Not time, not space, not even death!

Your Mother lives inside your laughter.

And she is crystallized in every tear drop.

A mother shows every emotion…

Happiness, sadness, fear, jealousy, love, hate, anger,

helplessness, excitement, joy, sorrow…

But most of all, unconditional love.

Mama's Baby Boy

Today is my son Drew's seventeenth birthday

Drew, AKA "Boomer" is my youngest child.  He was born while I was on active duty in Nurnberg, Germany.  We weren't planning on a third child, but my ex-husband and I had been separated for three months while I was trying to find housing for us there, so when we finally did get together...well, you all know the rest

He has been such a blessing and a joy to our family.  He was born with a heart defect and had to have open heart surgery when he was 13 months old.  This was a very traumatic time for us because he almost didn't make it through the surgery.  Because of these complications, he has some learning disabilities.  But that smile you see on his face in my photo album today is ALWAYS THERE.  As my grandmother used to say about me, "he doesn't know a stranger".  When we are at the mall or the supermarket he always makes a new friend.  He makes people have a nice day whether they want to or not!    It used to embarass us but now we love to see the reactions of people when he makes them smile or respond to "how are you doing today?"  They are startled at first and then they just respond, oh and they must shake his hand as well.

So HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY BOY!
We all love you VERY MUCH!

Cutting The Apron Strings

I'm feeling a little down today.

My oldest son and best friend is leaving for Germany today.   He is going to try to fulfill a dream he has had since he was in high school - to become a professional basketball player.  We talked for a long time last night on the phone.  Thank God I held back the tears and hope I do the same today when he calls me before he gets on the plane.

I reminded him that this world has changed since we were all over there when he was a little boy.  It amazes me how much he still remembers.  I know all mother's think this about their children but I have to say it anyway - MY SON IS PERFECT!    Anyone who has ever been fortunate enough to get to know him will attest to this.  He has always been a great kid and has now grown into a good man and I am very proud of him.

I only have one contact in Germany right now which is a blessing.  He will be there for 10 days when he will be trying to "make the team".  I pray that his dream will be fulfilled and that God will keep him safe.

Talking about - Hurricanes' Aftermath - MSNBC.com

These are very interesting individual stories.  As much as I love New Orleans I would have to agree with the people who have decided not to go back and chose to make new lives for themselves in another state.

"Why should we go back to a place where we were left to die?"

For Moms and Grandmoms (for debbie49)

Before I was a Mom - I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed. I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was a Mom - I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom - I had never been puked on. Pooped on. Spit on. Chewed on. Peed on.  I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts. I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom - I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests. Or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom - I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom - I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom - I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom. I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

And before I was a Grandma, I didn't know that all those "Mom" feelings more than doubled when you see that little bundle being held by 'your' baby...

Remember that behind every successful mother...... Is a basket of dirty laundry.

Moving On!

I just want to wish you all a HAPPY FRIDAY and hope that you all have a wonderful weekend!

This is a weekend I have been waiting for!  It's taken me 5 years to reach this point of happiness in my life even though moving is a horrible experience I am going to relish every horrible minute of it because I am moving on! On to another chapter in my life which is looking brighter and brighter every day!

I am only 15 minutes from our nation's capital and plan to take many weekend trips there. We also live close enough to Baltimore and Virginia to take some weekend trips there as well.

Getting used to this traffic has been an experience, but after two weeks I am now able to get where I need to go without wanting to burst into tears or give that universally known middle finger salute to whoever has the nerve to speed past me or blow their horn.  Can't they see my PA tags?  Bastards!   See, I told you...I am one of them now!!

Monday morning I will be in my new home unpacking boxes and wishing I had cable but LOVING the AWESOME radio stations they have around here!

Stephanie, we can finally check out some concerts together girl!  You're in trouble now sistah!

LOVE, PEACE AND BLESSINGS!!
